Ryan Hill-Falkenthal served in the US Navy for five years as a Hospital Corpsman. He was stationed at Naval Medical Center San Diego, where he worked with wounded warriors as well as the ICU. He was then stationed on the USS Green Bay for two years where he made one deployment. While serving on the Green Bay, he was awarded Sailor of the Year two straight years. To finish his career he went back to NMCSD to work in General Surgery until he left the Navy in June of 2014.
Ryan is currently in the Physician Assistant program at D’Youville College where he is expected to graduate November 2019. He is currently the President of the Student Veteran Association as well as the Vice President of the Student Physician Assistant Association.
Matthew Fino, a student at D’Youville College, served in the US Navy for six years from July 2000 to July 2006, serving on the USS Nicholson DD-982 and the USS Porter DDG-78 as a Fire Controlman. He maintained the MK 15 CIWS Weapon System; was a member of the Visit, Board, Search and Seizure (VBSS) team; and was deployed three times between 2003 and 2006.
Matthew is currently pursuing a BS/MS in the Dietetics program and a BA in Biology and will be graduating in May 2019. He is the current Vice President of the Student Veteran Association (SVA), Communication and Network Administrator, a peer mentor and ambassador for the SVA. He is also involved with the Student Government Association (SGA) and is a member of a committee to bring a college wide community event in the fall 2017. He also does many off-campus volunteering opportunities with the SVA.
Matthew’s off-campus hobbies include bike riding, kickball, hiking, and camping. He also enjoys getting involved with community activities.
Ignatius Golombek has been in the US Army for the past 13 years. He served 10 years on Active Duty then returned to Buffalo as a member of the Reserves and started school at D’Youville College in 2014.
Ignatius has been on the Dean’s List every semester. He was awarded the John T. Kennedy Memorial Award from the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants in the spring of 2017. He plans to finish requirements for his Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, a Master’s Degree in International Business, and sit for the CPA exam. He is an active member in numerous volunteer organizations that donates their time to helping those in need.
Jeffrey Adamczyk was a United States Infantry Marine for five years. He was stationed at Marine Corps Base Hawaii, and deployed to several countries including Afghanistan. He left the Marine Corps in 2015 as a Sergeant.
Jeffrey is currently in the Nursing program at D’Youville College, and has been on the Dean’s List since he began at D’Youville. He is projected to graduate in spring 2019, and donates his time both on and off campus by volunteering with various local organizations.
The D’Youville College Student Veteran Association (SVA) provides representation and a source for knowledge, support and camaraderie to all veterans, military aligned students and their families. Our SVA is committed to developing relationships both on and off campus to build a welcoming and sustaining environment. We are dedicated to growing our community within the greater Western New York area and beyond. We encourage giving and the continuation of selfless service to our community.
