Building the Partnership

The D’Youville Student Veterans of America (SVA) Chapter in partnership with the Montante Family Library is proud to host the D’Youville SVA Veterans History Project (VHP).  Veterans and their family members will be able to share their stories or donate items to the project right here in Buffalo, NY.  The D’Youville SVA Collection will be available through the Montante Family Library.  As a Library of Congress VHP Contributor, the collection will also be submitted to the Library of Congress VHP online database, and will be catalogued and searchable to the public.

The Veterans History Project at the Library of Congress

The United States Congress created the Veterans History Project (VHP) in 2000 as part of the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress.

VHP’s mission is to collect, preserve, and make accessible the personal accounts of American war veterans so that future generations may hear directly from veterans and better understand the realities of war. Stories can be told through personal narratives (audio and video-taped interviews, written memoirs), correspondence (letters, postcards, personal diaries) or visual materials (photographs, or drawings). To date, the Veterans History Project comprises over 68,000 individual collections that are available to researchers and the general public at the Library of Congress.
